Let's be SOCIAL

Finishing Touches: Upstairs' landing

Today, I give you one of my favorite spots in our house...the second-floor landing.
Seriously, your favorite spot, you ask?
Yes.
It is FULL of light. So, it is bright and cheery...even on gloomy days.

See? You come up the stairs and are immediately greeted by streaming light and cheery colors!

Here are a couple befores. It's definitely not a bad color...just too dark for what I was envisioning.

Our first use was an office...but it was kinda stuffy, and it was going to be a TON of work for Brad to run network up there (not that he couldn't do it...he is pretty darn awesome...but still, brick and networking equals not so fun)...so we changed plans.

And I'm happy with the choice. It just works as a library!

We chose to make the slants part of the ceiling instead of the wall, so we re-painted the ceiling white. The walls are Benjamin Moore's Jute. The bookcase is True Value's Vivid Meridian...it used to be in Miss G's room at the farm, so it's painted to match her dresser (which I purchased at The Vintage Soiree...love those finds...and its fall sale is coming in September. Hip, hip hooray!)

I got the map as a free printable from Pinterest...from the site thecraftingchicks.com. Get the map here. (It still needs hung up...but more "to dos" later.)

The quilt was the last project I made with my grandma...I stayed with my grandparents during the summer after my freshman year of college. We made the quilt with material used in dresses my grandma made me when I was little. It makes my heart happy to see it...and it's also inspired me to recover the beanbags with old quilts...when Lightning & princesses no longer reign supreme. I think that will add another touch of cozy to this space.

As for the LIST...duh, duh, duh...

* Paint walls/trim
* Paint closet doors
* Organize closet
* Paint ceiling (I still have another coat of ceiling trim to touch up)
* Hang white curtains
* Hang art (I'm in the process of making a letter/number piece, and I would also like THIS)

Have a bright & cheerful Friday :)

  3. My hubby and I are at odds with it! Half of the upstairs is already painted, so I'd like to brighten it up more and just carry the white trim throughout...but he knows how awful painting trim is, and is being more practical than me! :)
