Announcing Jemma Elise

Tuesday I went in for my 39 week doctor appointment, fully expecting to schedule an induction for the next week. However, due to lack of growth in the final weeks of my pregnancy, my doctor asked if we wanted to have our baby the next day, or at least sometime during the week. We weren't expecting that, but arrived at the hospital the next morning at 6 a.m. The induction officially began soon after 7 a.m. May 12.

Jemma Elise was born at 2:51 p.m. She weighed 6 lbs. 14.2 oz. and was 19.25 inches long. She had a head of dark hair. Beautiful!

About 45 minutes after Jemma was born, a tornado warning was issued for Newton and the surrounding area. Of course, I was feeding Jemma. The nurses let us stay in the room for the first warning, but 30 minutes later, another warning was issued. The above picture is of the group taking shelter in the hospital's hallway. What a crazy day for Jemma to enter the world!

Gracelyn is so excited to be a big sister. She loves to tell people how tiny baby Jemma is.

Jemma is all "warm and cozy" as Gracelyn would say. I made a purple blanket for Gracelyn, but decided to do pink for little Jemma. Enjoy the rest of the photos!

  1. Oh, she's just beautiful, Malinda!! What a blessing... I have the pink (matching) blanket you made for Elsie on Sadie's crib. It reminds me daily to pray for your sweet little family. Love you all!!
