God made me...CURLY
"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I'm fearfully and wonderfully made."
Psalm 139:13-14a
The above verse is a precious piece of truth. I look at my girls, and I praise God for their creation! But I often don't take a lot of time to apply it to myself.
My constant state of exhaustion and dark circles under my eyes tend to distract me from the fact that I am "fearfully & wonderfully made." Another part of my creation...my curly hair...has also given me fits over the years. But no more.
God made me...CURLY.
Me (kinda) embracing my curls. |
For at least the last year, I have been wearing my hair curly on a regular basis. At first, I believed it was pure laziness on my part. I've always believed that having straight hair was the way to go. When I was growing up, Jennifer Aniston was the reigning queen of hairstyle - long, straight, layered.
But I could NEVER wear my hair long, as it would take HOURS to make it straight. And then, throw in a little humidity, and those hours were a complete waste. So I always kept my hair in a bob so it was easier to straighten.
After wearing my hair curly, though, I have realized something. My curly hair isn't a product of laziness...it's a product of God. That's how it is. And I'm finally learning to care for it! Thanks to Pinterest, I came across a book called the "Curly Girl Handbook." It's all about embracing and caring for your curls.
I've had some interest in me sharing the process...and I will over the next days.
But for now, I challenge you to examine and refresh upon the ways God fearfully and wonderfully made you (even if it's not about curly hair).
