Let's be SOCIAL

Some rock and roll

Well folks, it's been five long days since I last had a voice. For two of those days, sound was a complete loss. If you have kids around 5, 3 and 1, you understand why I've been doing a lot of snapping and clapping. Not to mention trying to cheer on my track kids at meets/practice!

But all isn't lost. As with any hardship, if I look closely, there's something to be thankful for. In this case, a Bible verse came to life for me.

Starting with last week's Wednesday night lesson at church, I've found myself in the book of Luke several times. Each time it's the same story that strikes me. Maybe it's because I'm aware of it now...maybe it's because--being voiceless--it's real to me. Either way, it's powerful.

Jesus was on the road to Jerusalem. People were waving palm branches and spreading cloaks. The crowd cried out: "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest."

Others in the crowd said to Jesus, "Rebuke your disciples."

And the reply: "I tell you, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."

If we hold back praise to our God, the stones will cry out. The stones will praise the Lord!

That's how I felt in church Sunday when I couldn't sing. My heart was bubbling over with songs, but my mouth couldn't proclaim them. I was hoping the rocks were crying out with me...

"The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world." (Psalm 19: 1-4)

As I move forward in Holy Week, my soul cries out though my voice can't...and the rocks and heavens, too.
