Growing up and Wising up

Oh the stories I could tell...and HAVE told...about my Miss J. She is one special girl, and a special gift!

No longer the little girl who stopped my beating heart when she took off down a country road to find Grandpa and his combine...no longer the 2-year-old who split in Hobby Lobby, making a bee-line to a store ladder and initiating a CODE 1...

This little one is growing up and wising up! It's amazing how insightful she is, especially with regards to the spiritual realm. Today, for instance, she drew a picture of a girl walking through a thorny tunnel. When I commented about how painful that must be to walk through, she said, "God didn't let any of the thorns hurt her." Wow! And that from a 4.5 year old!

Today also marks a special point in the life of Miss J and of our family. She has decided to follow Jesus! She made her announcement last night during a loud and animated moment at the family dinner table--with company present, I might add. It was so loud, in fact, that I was the only one who heard her sweet announcement that she made at least five times.

I looked at her, kind of surprised, but not really, considering her insight, and responded to her question of "how?" with we'll talk about it later...it's a big decision!

But not to her...it's in fact, the natural next step in her faith. So this morning, as I'm barely out of the shower, she told me again that she wanted Jesus in her heart. Not willing to deny the little lady again, we immediately prayed. It was a beautiful moment, and something that brought tears to my eyes.

A year ago, when G decided to follow Jesus, a friend told me not to miss the opportunity to document the moment with a camera. I took that same advice with Miss J. Incidentally, the photo I took of G was in the spot where we prayed, so I did the same for Miss J...right in front of the shower curtain!

A year ago, I also picked a life-verse to pray over G, and this morning as I sat down to write Miss J's story in my journal, the verse printed on the bottom of the page held my attention, as if this page had been specifically saved for this very moment.

"When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
"Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever! Amen." Eph. 3: 14-21

Countless times Jemma and I have talked about the power that comes through Jesus and the Holy Spirit (have I mentioned she's insightful?), so this verse seems so appropriate for Miss J.

I'm excited to see where she is led...and humbled that I get to be her mom!

Please pray for our family in the days, weeks and months (and years!!!) to come, as we continue to instruct Miss J in this life decision she has made!
